Band Camp

On October 28 & 29, I had the honour  of attending Senior Band Camp as a parent chaperone.  It was a wonderful annual event that our secondary school music teachers organize to help promote musicianship within our secondary schools.

Between mass band rehearsals, instrument clinics with professional musicians, sectional rehearsals, Halloween dance and late night giggling, I am …. awestruck.  We have such amazing young musicians in our district,  and  all of our young adults were well-behaved and respectful of YMCA Camp Elphinstone and its staff, and of their chaperones.

I was very honoured to emcee the afternoon concert which featured our Jazz and Concert Bands, as well a special performance by the Sunshine Coast Community Band.  You can view a clip of the mass band performance of all three high schools and the community band on Superintendent Bocking’s Blog :  bockingp.wordpress.com

Our district should be very proud of our vibrant Senior Band Program, and a standing ovation  goes to the teachers that make it happen – Tom Kellough, Carolyn Mitchell and Jen McInnes.  Thank you!
